The Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center is a natural refuge in the heart of Kansas City that invites visitors to reconnect with Missouri’s native ecosystems through education, stewardship, and exploration. The Center needed a detailed and user-friendly site plan to help guide guests through its outdoor trails, garden spaces, and key destinations. The final product had to be both visually engaging and functionally accurate for all types of visitors.
We approached the site plan as a visual thread that ties together orientation, movement, and experience. The design was built with organic forms, inviting colors, and a layout that naturally leads the eye through the property. Trails, gardens, learning zones, and parking areas were clearly illustrated and labeled, while subtle artistic details supported a sense of curiosity and calm. The finished piece functions as a map and as an invitation into the landscape.
The final site plan helps visitors move through the Discovery Center with ease and confidence. Whether printed for handouts or installed as part of on-site signage, it supports learning and connection by making the physical space more welcoming. The map reflects the Center’s mission to make nature more accessible and offers every visitor a clear and beautiful introduction to what lies ahead.
